Can. A dark cola colour with a billowy light tan head. Lacing present.
A mild roasted malt and distant chocolate aroma with a bit of vegetation.
A touch of metal in the flavour and the vegetation is somewhat stewed. Toasted bread.
Light to medium body with unassuming carbonation.
Hmm.

Bought at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam
Into my pint glass
APPEARANCE: Pours a big two-finger tan head. Head is medium thick, bumpy and bubbly. It settles with lots of pot holes and is very uneven. Colour is black with ruby tints on the bottom of the glass, and it's relatively opaque. Head slowly dissipates leaving a healthy film behind, and some nice lacing falls down the glass.
SMELL: Very fruity for an English stout. Grape juice, apples, and other berries perhaps. Nothing of the roasted and chocolate malt it advertises. Not a stout nose.
TASTE: A fruity taste of grapes and ripe apples. A very sweet aftertaste lingers a bit too long. A slight bit of roasted malts, but definitely not the powerful roasted and chocolate flavors it advertises. It doesn't taste like a stout, and the sweet apple aftertaste makes it hard to finish.
PALATE: Thin body with medium carbonation. Goes down like nothing with no bite. Lacks weight. Very light and thin. Finishes rather dry.
OVERALL: A decent looking stout, except for the potholes in the head, but that was all that was good about this beer. Doesn't smell, taste, or feel like a stout.
As a final note, this was similar to their Dragon Dark stout, but this one looks great and at least feels like a beer. Definately a better effort, but the nose and taste are still not pleasant enough to make it even average. I could finish this one, which is more than I could say for their Dragon brew.
