The aroma hints softly at black currant, cherry, and raspberry. The similarly light taste is accented with perhaps a touch more bitterness than is customary in a doppelbock. Suginator is drowned mahogany, clear, with no head or lace, and virtually no carbonation.
Im guessing here, but I sense doppelbock malts, doppelbock hops (in slightly exaggerated sums) and a non-doppelbock yeast strain creating a beer that tilts only marginally towards the style.

A dopplebock, named after Ben's (the brewer's) dog, Sugar. Made with European malts and hops: 34 IBU & 6.6% ABV. On-tap at NW Quimby LL Beer Hall in early Feb 2007.
A: Dark cola/ruby brown with little carbonation. Clear, with a thin head of gauzy tan bubbles. Almost no lace.
S: Initially, little smell. Hints of malty caramel and thick sugars. As it warms, an appealing spiciness and a rich sweet caramel smell permeates the nose.
T: Malty and remarkably sweet. Malty caramel with alot of sugars. Improves in complexity as it warms, caramel gets smoother and hops even out the sweeter flavors.
M: Surprisingly refreshing and crisp, Light/medium mouthfeel, suffers from some thinness. Mild carbonation.
D: Probably worthy of drinking again. This beer goes down really easily, like a soda or an iced tea. A sugary beer, one where the bittering hops definitely play second fiddle. Tasty and worthy of a try. If this were brewed again, I'd be happy.
