"Kirishima Beer Pale Ale" on tap at the Keyaki Beer Festival in Japan.
Hazy copper body with an off-white head that leaves numerous spots of lacing.
Near medium body with medium+ carbonation and a nice, semi-dry finish.
A little mild for style with low bitterness. Lingering spicy hop and mild grapefruit aftertaste.

Kirishima Beer Golden ale, 330mL brown bottle, bottled 2009.06.15, best before 2009.06.15. Strangely, this comes from the same brewery as the Hyuganatsu, and the label is identical, only this one says Kirishima Beer Golden while the other said Kirinokura Brewery Hyuganatsu. Name change? Who knows.
The Hyuganatsu I reviewed before this was full of sodium metabisulfite, and the cleaning agent is also detectable in the finish of this beer, although it's very faint. This brewery clearly has MAJOR issues with the cleaning of its bottles and/or fermenters, so be aware before you drop 500 yen on a bottle of 'suds' from this brewery!
Despite the disappointing nastiness on the palate, the beer is otherwise strong. A summery golden ale (why is 'golden ale' not a selectable style?) in the same vein as James Squire Golden Ale, this has the same Amarillo hop fruitiness and sweetness on the tongue. I can't go into any more detail about this beer because it is tainted by its cleaning problems.
Overall, disappointed. I'll take another trip to Miyakonojo to try their beers on tap, and review them that way. I have their Stout to try next, if it too is full of alkali then I won't waste my time with this beer again, at least in the bottle.
This is a real shame, this brewery had promise.
