From a bottle labelled "Kolsch" . Pours a clear amber, not much head, Taste of sour malt but no hops and no bitterness. Light body, watery. Very good on a hot day.

Citrus biscuit malts not to bad

 

 

Bottle: a standard 330mL brown bottle, a pretty ordinary macro label.

Appearance: pours a pale golden colour with a small fluffing head that dissipates reasonably quickly. Doesn't look like much.

Aroma: an aroma of some light citrus hops and an adjunct fug (rice). The citrus is nice, but the adjunct comes across a bit cheap.

Taste: mostly citrus with some light malts. Not terribly exciting, but that's what you get for the price.

Aftertaste: the flavours disappear quickly, which was expected.

Mouth feel: light in body and full on carbonation. Okay for a warm day only.

Overall: an okay beer for a warm day, but there are others more worthy even at as reasonable a price as AU$43 a case.

 

 

A: Pours a clear light golden color with a small head that fades to very little lacing.

S: Aroma of mild citrus and some malt sweetness and bit of grain.

T: Taste is of citrus up front with some mild malt sweetness and grain. Mild bitterness and a fairly clean finish.

F: Light body, crisp, smooth and refreshing.

O: Decent beer for a hot summer day.

 

 

Pours gold with a a small head.
Nose shows caramel and toffee in large amounts, quite nice.
Similar flavours, loads of malt with honey and caramel notes, similar to the IPA. Unfortunately is fall flat quickly after that.
Body seems watery.
I was quite surprised with this, especially after looking at other reviews. It's actually quite nice, and far removed from the boring pale lager-like beer I expecting...

A friend kept recommending I try this beer, but stubborn and lazy as I am I never got around to it. So the other day when he dropped by with a bottle of this I thought now I have to review it. It says "Kolsch" on the label and the only Kolsch I've ever tried is the quite outstanding "Kamberra Kolsch" which whilst not as good as their ales is still a decent brew... lets see how this beer compares.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a tulip pint (good old pinty!).

A: Body is a translucent light gold with a half centimeter white head. The action inside looks a little bit flat.

S: Very mild aroma for this one. It is reminiscent crisp apple with a grain undertone and cut grass after note.

T: The flavour is fresh and slightly hoppy with biscuit malts and apple peel. It's not bad but nonetheless presents little challenge to the taste buds. There is an odd aftertaste; regular hop bitterness mixed with some sort of metallic tang, it's not "tip the drink down the sink" bad however it does distract from the overall flavour.

M: Mid to low carbonation and fairly light bodied.

D: It's a middle road brew this 'Wahoo'. I want to like it more but it doesn't offer much in the way of flavour, kind of like a typical Aussie lager (only this is much less offensive). This would be a good beer for a scorching summer day when you needed something that goes down fast and without a challenge - like lemonade.

Food match: Try matching this with seafood (yeah I know there's a picture of a fish on the side of the bottle), prawns would go well with this, or calamari rings fried with a lemon wedge and some chips.

M - Light body and full carbonation

O - Not a beer that offers much in the way of flavour but has its place quenching a thirst.

This beer gets a bad rap, but I think its more misunderstood than anything. Its actually somewhere between an alt and a kolsch, but not as good as either. Some clean robust malt character present in the background (alt like), but it is let down by a metallic hop character/bitterness

Overall a drinkable beer - but it could be a great if they bumped up the bitternss, put in a touch more malt, and chuck in some quality hops.

Pours a pale straw colour with light carbonation, no head, thin rim of lace. Nice champagne colour, shame it doesn't have the sparkle of champagne. Or anything else.

Nose has a hint of fruit, a hint of honey, a hint of herbal hops. A big dollop of nothing, and a slight rice aroma. Very light sourness saves it from being utterly boring.

Taste is simple and dull, very watery with hints of carbonation and a mild piney hop, but very little. Very thin feel, no carbonation or anything. Has maybe a slight grassy astringency but nothing really. Short, dull palate, very little to recommend here. Sharpness at the back is a turnoff, otherwise just boring.

Wouldn't call this premium, and it's far more likely to make me yell "Get out of the way, I have to puke" than "Wahoo!"

Very pale piss yellow, with some champagne bubbles and a filmy head of white foam. Looks pretty insipid.

Smells undeniably like ass, or at least a slightly warm and organic fart. Sulphurous, with a light carbonic acidity. Great, it's like puke and farts. Well done beer. Slight fishy characters as well. At least these characters aren't really strong.

Light sweet and a little sickly with a thin corn or wheat-husk character. Boo. Not very much at all. Mouthfeel very thin.

A thoroughly unpleasant and thoughtlessly offensive beer. It doesn't have quite enough character to be truly undrinkable, but I'll certainly pass if someone offers me another.

Very skunky smell, don't think it's a bad bottle but just in case...

Pours a very pale yellow with a thin head & large bubbles.

Skunky/metallic aroma, does NOT match the flavor. The taste is halfway decent hoppiness with a touch of malt. Very light ale, ok balance but not much depth.

Easy to drink but not much too it.

This is a very strange beer from the gage road brewing company are they trying to sell beer to the VB drinkers or are they trying something new

Rather band beer not much flavour rather disapointing beer.

Theres not much that can be said about this beer.

Don't buy it my six pack was a gift and I only drank three and gave the rest away

Appearance - 2.0
A firm pour yeilds a very thin white head that instantly all but disappears. Light blonde in colour with great clarity.

Smell - 2.5
Very little aroma to speak of, but very clean, a little corn, slightly sweet.

Taste - 3.0
Very clean and crisp, with just a hint of softness that suggests that it is an ale, not a lager. Light grain and husk flavour, low to moderate bitterness lingers nicely, finishes dry.

Mouthfeel - 3.0
Low carbonation, could definitely stand to be more lively, but goes down quite smoothly.

Drinkability - 4.0
Certainly sessionable, this would be a great bbq beer, although certainly not interesting enough for enthusiasts to come back to.

OVERALL - 2.8
How this won a gold at the AIBA I will never know. Admittedly there is not much wrong with it, but there is very little right with it either. It could be easily mistaken as one of the better Australian or European macro lagers. Sad that Gage Roads is having to resort to this kind of tasteless beer to save their own hides.
