800 ML bottle 3576/4500 Poured into a La Chouffe Tulip
Acquired in trade from Lukie---- Thank you
A-- Poured a burnt orange color. Fairly large egg white head that settled down to one finger. Has sticky lacing and shows no real carbonation.
S-- Spicy, sweet and a big alcohol nose on this. The malt is pretty much overwhelmed by the sweet and alcohol nose. Still has the biscuit like quality though. More like a spiced sponge cake.
T-- Alcohol, sweet, and orange. Like the glazing of a pineapple upside down cake in a lot of ways. A little more of a tropical taste to this. A little hot though.
M-- Creamy but not overly carbonated. Could use a lot less sugar. Much heavier than other triples. The yeast taste is very missing in this. Alcohol carries on to the mouthfeel as well. Still a very hot beer and you are reminded in every sip it is 9.8%.
D-- I like this beer on a lot of levels. Still it needs to have more of the biscuit taste as that is very lost in this. Triples are so much about balance and this could be very good but is overwhelming in the alcohol where the best triples are more about the spice, fruit and biscuit taste and the ABV is not very noticable. Feel like I am drinking a big RIS that needs to settle down before being drank. This beer needs time on Lees in a big way. All this being said I would buy a second one and cellar it. This puppy needs time to settle down and it could be quite good.
Like the effort and especially seeing a big ABV from a brewery that tends to play it very safe. Good to see an Australian brewery doing a style like this.

Appearance - 4.0
Poured a finger of white head over a clear golden copper body.
Smell - 3.5
Lightly spicy, sugary sweet, quite alcoholic.
Taste - 3.5
Not bad, but the alcohol overwhelms the flavour. Sweet pale malt, light spice, slightly buttery.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Fine carbonation could stand to be more lively, but feels quite creamy in the mouth.
Drinkability - 4.0
Easy to drink for such a strong beer.
OVERALL - 3.7
Falls short of the complex brillance of the best Belgian brewed tripels, but still quite an accomplishment for the WA brewery, and something I would definitely drink again.

Appearance - Amber, small head in a goblet, high carbonation.
Smell - Sweet and alcoholic.
Taste - Very sweet, probably just a little too sweet for a Tripel. Very good fruity/grainy taste. The unusually high alcohol level is very well hidden.
Mouthfeel - Smooth, good carbonation.
Drinkability - Like most Gage Roads beers, this is very drinkable for the style.
Overall - Like they did with the Saison, Gage Roads have made a very good representation of a great beer style.
