Beer #24 in the Canadian KALEA Beer Advent Calendar. Thanks to Kevin and Nicole. Best before July 25, 2020. Final new beer of 2019. Served at cellar temperature into a weizen glass.
Appearance - Rich golden color - looking more maibock than weizenbock with only a slight amount of haze. Lots of effervescent carbonation. A nice tight finger plus of dense fluffy white head.
Smell - Banana and clove for sure, lots of wheat, plenty sweet with a slight metallic undertone.
Taste - Some banana, a slight bit of clove and tiny bit of another spice, nutmeg maybe. Good flavor, but pretty typical of a regular hefe. Not getting the rich maltiness that accompanies the best ins style (Vitus, Aventinus). On the plus side, the ABV is wonderfully concealed. Some grassy earthiness at the close. Gets better the more you drink of it.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, well carbonated, drinks very light given the ABV, a bit of a juicy wheat and banana finish.
Overall - It's not the cream of the crop for the style, but this is quite tasty, a great way to cap an eventful 2019.
