Format: standard mid-brown 330mL bottle, funky label. I do like the old-school Barons labels, particularly the Native Range.
Appearance: pours a clear dark amber with the tiniest ruby highlights against the light. A small off-white head hangs around for a while, with very little lacing.
Aroma: some definite earthy and dust qualities, with some light chocolate malts and brown sugar sweetness. As an Aussie who has lived in the bush, you can definitely pick up the wattle tree seeds - very nostalgic.
Taste: I found that the sweet malts were a bit too dominant compared to the hops and wattle / earth characters. Still, a nice dark lager-style ale.
Aftertaste: a touch more bitterness does come through on the aftertaste, but the almost saccharin sweet malts tag along too.
Mouth feel: light in body with a moderate to higher carbonation, carries the flavour through well without being 'spiky'.
Overall: it's AU$56 a case, so probably worth a 6-pack every now and then. Not one of the best beers ever and yet it remains one of my favourites. Go figure.
