I was going to kick off this note with another rant questioning why so-called micros in this country churn out utter crap but Highland Lad’s summed it up perfectly (again!). Macro appearance of dark golden amber and a thin fizzy head. Aromas give me absolutely nothing. Flavours are terribly bland; almost CUB like with a cardboard staleness to the malts and a piss-weak level of bitterness to finish. Very disappointing.

Barons Pale Ale has a thin, off-white head, and a cloudy, orange appearance, with tiny suspended particles floating throughout. The aroma and taste are of overripe, and even, rotting citrus. There is also a flat, cracker taste in there, and the hop profile is negligible. Mouth-feel is medium, and Barons Pale Ale finishes wet and unpleasant. This is bad. I would not try it again.

A light coppery-amber beer pours into my glass, forming a small head that fades very quickly, and is slightly redeemed from mediocrity by some decent patchy lacing.
I don't get much of a hops presence on the nose here. There are some, but they're underneath a stronger malt presence with a bit of a sweetness and a touch of fruits. It's not weak, but it does need a stronger hops nose on the whole.
The taste is what I expected from the nose. It's nice, and it's fairly heady and not at all lacking flavor. It's just that here, especially as opposed to other styles, any craft drinker is going to need more hops. The hops here do have a unique flavor profile, adding an interesting fleshy fruits note that verges on tangy. Ultimately, though, hops aren't as strong as malts and grains.
The feel really isn't lacking; medium body, a nice carbonation that isn't so little that it's flat or so much that it's too spritzy, and a smoothness make for good drinking.
Drinkable, certainly, and I'd have another, but not many looking for the classic Pale Ale profile will pick this if there's a variety of craft to choose from.

L: ~2 finger head. Malty brown apricot colour. 2.5
S: citric fruits- orange, orange rind. Yeast. 3
T: vegetal. Not sweet. Needs more sweetness imo. 2
M: kind of lacking in carbonation. 2.5
D: wouldn't be bad if I'd already had a few. 3
I'll be sticking to the Wattle Seed from Baron's in the future.

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a small head. Smell is mild, some hops. Taste is of hops with a bit of fruit, pretty good flavor. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and has good drinkability. Overall this is a fairly enjoyable beer.

Grabbed this at State Line the other day
Mostly clear but mildly hazy this is orange with a thin white head. Lacing is OK, but rather poor
The nose is rather atrocious, a mild bitter hop character, a touch of mint and a strange roasted vegetable character. Mildly vomit-like. Behind it all is some sweetness, but all told, this is rather bad.
The flavors are a lot better with mild citrus, a little mint and a some bubblegum-like character. Hop bitterness is *very* low, there's some decent flavor though. Mild sweetness in the middle, with honey and caramel, this finishes dry with hardly any bitterness
Light in body with a fairly high level of carbonation, this finishes rather disappointing, mildly watery, a little sugar and a faint hop character. While OK, this is really a disappointment

Golden colored with a thin white head that quickly shrinks to a mere skim of foam. The nose is untoasted grain and something mildly herbal, kind of like roasted garlic and fennel. Not much hop aroma to speak of. Barley is the main flavor with mild floral hops in the finish. Light bodied with seltzery carbonation. An average beer that could benefit from more hop flavor.

(Served in a short Pilsner glass)
Excited about the Nelson Sauvin hops
A- This beer pours a crystal clear yellow body with a thin soapy snow white head and a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles gliding to the surface.
S- This beer has a faint hint of shoe leather in the green hop hint with a slight sulfury finish that grows as the beer warms.
T- The soft tangy hop note had hints of green lemons and a slight tart soft pungent hop finish with just a bit of fruit. The malt bill was very soft and pretty non-distinct.
M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a tight fizz finish.
D- This beer is smooth and soft with a bite of hops at the finish and a bit of a sulfury nose. I was hoping there would be more of the new hops in the profile along with some malt to support it.

Poured into a tumbler from a 12 oz. (330 ml) bottle. Freshness date is September 2009.
The pour is a clear golden with about a half inch of creamy off-white head. The head is gone within a minute, and there is some lacing.
The nose is fruity and citrusy (especially grapefruit) with a bit of floral and some breadiness. During the sip, the breadiness takes over with the other flavours going to the background. A very mild bitterness is present throughout the sip.
Mouthfeel is on the thin side with a large amount of carbonation. Drinkability is decent, but the breadiness might be too powerful by the second one.
Overall, it's not a bad beer, but it's overpriced even if it did come to Starkville, Mississippi, from Australia. I'll pass next time.

Well, the bottle's telling me it's "best served ice cold", which is a worryingly ignorant statement to begin with. Or at least it spells bad things for the flavour.
Pours a golden colour with a thin off-white head that doesn't stick around for an encore, or even the first performance. Leaves virtually nothing and minimal lace is produced. Thin but steady carbonation, but looks pretty mediocre. Grim start, indeed.
Nose is quite fruity and fairly hoppy, with a pleasant floral aloma announcing itself. Hints of red apple, pineapple and lime with a strong rose aroma, sweet and pleasant. Overall a bit subdued though, definitely need to work to get that aroma off it, and this isn't even ice cold.
Taste is quite fruity and quite sweet with hints of apple juice, citrus and melon vying for supremacy. A hint of honey behind there as well, or at least a generous amber malt. Hops are underutilised; they are definitely present but there's no punctuation to their flavour, they just float to the surface on the back palate to leave a slightly woody, floral bitterness just as a lingering aftertaste.
The beer tastes quite malty but the feel is a bit down, the body of the malt isn't really there to back it up. A bit watery, really.
Look, this isn't a bad drop, but I feel like they're being all Aussie and lax with it, trying to pander to the VB-swilling masses and they shouldn't be afraid to give it some oomph! It just feels like it's not all there, like the flavour's vacationing in Bali.

Golden pour, nice head but little persistence.
Aroma is delicate, some passionfruit and lemon from the nelson sauvin, with a fair bit of cereal malt. Definately lacking, was expecting more from the description of hops on the label.
Flavours are similarly boring, a hint of lemon and some sweet hops mixes with slightly metallic malt.
Too much carbonation.

This pours a dark golden colour with a centimetre or two of head and a light retention. Clear.
Some nice florals and tropical fruit notes in the aroma.
Fruitiness continues on the palate. A bit of bitterness at the back. A little sweetness.
Medium bodied.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear dark gold with a small white head. Grainy malt aromas with little else on the nose. Sweet tasting for the most part with a sweet finish and only the faintest bitterness. Not much there. Bland and characterless, but quite drinkable.

Pours a thin, light orange body with a rapidly thinning head and a consistent string of effervescence....metallic pilsner malts settle atop ale hops--elusive, understated otherwise... sprtizy, thin mouthfeel that straddles both ale and lager styles... slick and swift through the teeth.... strangely crisp, clean watery taste with a hint of hops--safe, if not a bit thin.... straight-forward pale ale with a finishing flourish of mellow malts, sensible but not spectacular

wow this is highly carbed. has no trouble keeping a nice white foamy head. light lacing sticks to the sides of the glass. typical apa color.
certainly some hops in the nose, but a strong malt sweetness competes for attention. as it warms the malt presence becomes stronger and hops fade. not good for an apa.
relatively uneventful taste. similar light hop profile without the detrimental sweet malt overtones. balanced, but at the cost of having anything that stands out.
after this and the esb (both of which were i date), i would like to try barons on tap and see if that makes any difference. otherwise one and done is about enough.

A - Poured out an orange/gold color with a very fizzy/bubbly body. It had a small, tan, bubbly head that left no lace.
S - It smelled very grassy with a very sweet caramel nose.
T - It had a nice spicy aspect with a very sweet malt flavor. Strong toffee flavors mix with caramel.
M - It was fairly crisp and smooth. A light to medium-bodied beer.
D - This is a pretty good pale. It is not a typical american pale ale with its sweet maltiness, but it is still good.

This Australian brew pours a clear amber color with a thin white cover and good lacing. The aroma is a strange mix of seaweed and butterscotch, I can't find other words to describe this unusual blend. The first mouthful is a lightly carbonated, thin bodied wheat and butterscotch, but no hops evident. It's pretty drinkable but just too thin, no guts, kind of a dank and weird.
