Nutty malt aroma, not overpowering but still a very nice aroma. Taste is malt forward but again not overpowering or sweet. The nut flavor isn't artificial tasting and really makes the beer very flavorful. The feel is remarkable, incredibly thick and cream like

I was able to receive this Triumph cask beer at the Princeton location on 1/19/08. I have forgot what type glassware it was served it. I think it might have been a Pilsener glass. The beer was a dark crimson red with a nice creamy 1 1/2 to 2 inch head of white foam. This head of foam never dissipated away. The size of it did get smaller, but it never went away. It lasted the till the end of the beer's life in my glass. It had a light to medium based aroma of toasted nuts. Behind those toasted nuts was just toasted malts and a slight touch of bitter hops. Not much going on in the aroma department. It had a light easygoing taste of toasted nuts, toasted malts, a splash of wheat bread, and a touch of regular bitter hops at the end. It was clearly a light bodied beer with a soft aftertaste of toasted nuts and a hint of toasted malts. It's worth a shot if it's cask conditioned, but I would pass on this one if it was just a regular tap beer.

Appearance. A clear dark brown ruby color with a nice tan head.

Smell. A nice creamy maltiness with small amounts of nuts and coffee.

Taste is pretty good. After a few sips i do get a nice taste of nuttiness. I also get a small metallic taste to it though. nice round maltiness flavor.

Mouthfeel. I dont know what it is with these beers from triumph, i just dont like there mouthfeel, always thin. This one seemed thin as well.

Overall, a pretty good nut brown ale, just wish the taste and mouthfeel was fuller.

On Tap (5/6/06) at the Princeton Brewery (I also had this as part of their 1000th brew celebration)

Color is absolutely dark ruby to a medium brown (much much darker than New Castle) and the taste is really awesome.

Incredibly smooth with a nice malty richness that comes through really well paired with their food (which is excellent).

Pints are highly drinkable - as it can't get much nicer than their seasonal selections.

If you are in the area I would certainly get over to try it - definitely a well crafted nut brown ale.

Enjoy.

Served via hand-pump, this nut brown ale delivers a clear chestnut body with ruby highlights beneath a frothy head of ivory that holds extremely well and leaves craggy walls of sticky lace about the glass. The nose is restrained (as might be expected), and offers a delightful note of toasted cocoa that borders on having a roasted edge. The body is medium-light and its restrained carbonation leaves it quite smooth and creamy across the palate. The flavor is richer than the nose indicates, with subtle chocolate notes and a hint of roastiness still lingering in the background. It's extremely well-balanced with a sublime bitterness that allows it to finish semi-dry with its malt notes slowly fading. Well done and quite enjoyable! A good session ale!

I tried this the other night at the celebration of Triumph's 1000th batch of beer (a helles double bock which was incredible). However the brown ale wasn't particularly good. It poured a dark red, with a creamy head that was gone all too quickly. There wasn't much malt or hop present in the nose. The taste is where this beer fell short. When drinking a nut brown ale, I expect nuttiness, and there was very little in this brew (probably didn't use enough chocolate malt--at least to my liking). Also, the bitterness was harsh...too harsh for a brown, and not balanced by much sweetness at all. The beer also had an acidic tendency, that made it hard to finish.
