This ESB was on-tap at the Basil T's in Toms River on 8/9/2008. They served it to me in a slender Pilsner glass.
This ESB poured a dark amber hue with a decent 1/2 an inch head of white foam. It had nice retention that left behind foamy white rings and a few spots of lace around the glass. The aroma was lightly sweet with toasted malts, a splash of juicy fruits, and some fruity hops hiding in the background. The taste was light and slightly sweet with toasted malts, weak furity hops, and a small touch of yeast at the end. I guess I could say it was well balanced because there wasn't all that much malt or hops in this beer. I guess the good thing about the taste was the fact that it didn't have too much yeast in it like some of the other Basil T's beers I've had in the past. This was a light bodied beer with a sweet aftertaste of yeast and toasted malts. It's an average beer. It could have lowered the yeast content and added in a few more hops among other things. I doubt I would try this beer agian.

English Special Bitter by Basil T's- Toms River
Appearance- a light copper with no head whatsoever! It actually had a oily coating floating on the top. Was this from soap residue?!
Smell- a weak malt and nothing else.
Taste- blahhh! What is this?! Very watery, very weak, I think I detected a hop or 2. No bitterness No NOTHING!
Overall, a beer I forgot about the second the glass was empty. A no flavor ho-hum beer I won't buy again!
