Pours dark brown/blackish with a thin head that leaves lacing on the glass.
The smell is of cocoa with coffee - mild.
The taste is of cocoa and coffee with earthy/herbal balance. Slightly chalky and yeasty. Finishes with a mild roastiness.
Thin and watery. It began pretty cold - a bit more than I would have preferred, so I let it warm up, but that did little, if anything, to produce more of a body.
A pretty weak porter.

I was able to get this one at the Toms River Basil T's Brew Pub on 1/27/2008. I decided to take this one home in one of their take home growlers. When poured into a Brooklyn Brewery Europ pint glass, the beer was a chocolate black with a few mahagony brown highlights. It had a 1/2 inch head of tan colored foam that quickly dissipated into a handful of tan colored rings and spotty lace. The aroma started off sweet and then as soon as it when it warms up, a malt based aroma of roasted malts, plums, milk chocolate, a splash of sweet caramel, and a slight touch of roasted hops will emerge. The taste was slightly dry and malty with milk chocolate, roasted caramel malts, and espresso beans. The taste was just like the aroma, once the beer finds the correct temperature, it gets better and better. The mouthfeel was dry and heavly carbonated that contained roasted malts and dry roasted hops. The aftertaste will linger on for a few minutes. One of the better Basil T's that I ordered. I would be happy if they filled up my growler with this beer again.
