Pours a dark amber colour with a creamy off-white head that has decent retention time. A small amount of residue is left on the glass after each sip.
The aroma is only faintly malty at first but picks up some more characteristics as it warms a bit: it becomes more bread-like and earthy, with perhaps a bit of caramel and spice.
The flavour is quite nice, blending the bread and earth notes form the aroma with a bit more spice, some sweetness from caramel at the finish, and what I detected as a faint hint of smoke, which just really went well with the flavours here. Mouthfeel was medium bodied and had a rugged dryness to it.
This one was tasty overall. Some of their standard brews can be hit or miss but the seasonal offerings tend to pack a bit more of a punch and seem to be consistently good. It was quite enjoyable overall and I'd certainly order it up again in the future and may even head back for a growler fill before it's gone.

Pours bright copper with a lasting, creamy off-white head that leaves plenty of rings of lacing on the glass.
The smell is of carmelized graininess.
The taste is of carmelized grainy malt with a slightly nutty character. Continental-type hops give some balance to the sweetness.
It is on the thin side, though alcohol is pretty well-covered.
I've had the Climax Doppelbock - made by same brewer - and this is not the same. I don't know what happened, but it was thinner in aroma, taste and especially body.
