L- Very deep chestnut-red, pours hazy, plus 2mm mid-tan head that is already leaving foam (more than lacing) adhered to the side of the glass as I hold it. (ps most of the head holding even 15mins later).
S- Rich, deep, roasty-toasty, timber - nice.
T- Deep, malty, a bright almost fruity (deep roasted fruits?) in the middle, yet with a piquant subtle spicy hop edge into the finish.
F- Lovely carbonation continues in the mouth. Very satisfying... really that's it.
O- This beer is notably bigger than it's specification. Somehow the deep/fruity middle^ seems to imitate ABV% as it comes over as notably more than 7%. To construct this big a beer onto a relatively under-stated 7% foundation is a sign of the brewer's skill. I really enjoyed this one, and if it were more widely available I'd love to buy this/similar again.
Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a DIY mixed-case of beers for home delivery.
330ml bottle £3.10 BB: Mar-2022 ps
For context, it's pretty unusual for me to rate any aspect or beer above 4, so this one is relatively very highly rated by me on this first rating on this listing.
And there is another listing for this beer under 'Ampleforth Abbey' as the brewery. But the latter is a school not a brewery, I know I had friends who (for their sins) were sent off there. I have 'Reported' this fact to BA but the reviews under the incorrect listing have not been moved here, nor that school/(brewery) listing deleted. To be clear, the lable states 'Brewed and bottled by Little Valley Brewery,West Yorkshire, under contract from Ampleforth Abbey [etc...]'.
