A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2010, so it's well out of date. I came across this unusual beer at the Great Yorkshire Show in summer 2010. It was produced and sold by Yorkshire Hemp, a company specialising in a range of hemp-related products. I tried a sample and thought it was great so I picked one up. My only regret is leaving it so long before drinking (and reviewing). Brewed by Little Valley. Label mentions that it contains hemp cake (in addition to the usual beer ingredients) and is bottle conditioned.
Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A pale straw colour with plenty of visible sediment and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before collapsing to a surface foam. Aroma of sour grain and yeast; notes of tart apples, vinegar and a hint of herbs. Smells a bit off, which I suppose is due to age.
Tastes of tart grain and malt with a dry, yeasty finish. Sour notes that resemble acidic fruit or vinegar, as well as notes of yeast and a nutty herbal flavour. Faint hints of hops. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with a moderately astringent character. Mild herbal aftertaste.
Not brilliant; I strongly suspect that this has deteriorated since I acquired it. Not undrinkable but has a rather sour flavour. A pity, as my recollection of tasting it was good; a pale ale with a nice aromatic hoppy character. In any case I don't think it's still in production, but perhaps it may be resurrected in the future.
