Our Scottish Ale combines the flavor of seven types of malt along with three varieties of hops to create a rich, full-bodied brew. A touch of vanilla brings all these flavors together.

Appearance: Dark brown body, some amber tints, too, and fair clarity. Medium-small, light beige head.

Smell: Markedly malty with notes of toasted nuts, pleasing Munich malts, and fire-licked turbinado sugars. Little sniff of background smoke. Slightly fruity, with a touch of dried herb.

Taste: A start of cola nuts, deep, resounding toastiness, and caramelized burnt sugars. There's a faint background smokiness. Hint of raisins, maybe a little date. Low herbal-toned hops, very soft bitterness. Malty, nearly dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: My favorite of the Boscos brews I've had over the past few days. Congrats, Isle of Skye Scottish Ale. Congrats.

Sampled at the Nashville Brewery on our way to Ocala, FL.

A: deep cooper color with no head
S: light and mild
T: sweet, lower alcohol flavor at 1066, but not enough depth, just like the others I've sampled
M: okay but not warming and gutsy like a Scottish should be
D: okay but not something you want more of

Boscos came up for the Schlafly Repeal festival, and brought a couple kegs of the Scottish with them. First sampled in the Memphis Boscos, this came directly from the Nashville brewery.

Still a darn fine brew that poured a deep opaque mahogany brown, small tan head that sticks around while leaving sticky lace in the 6 oz samle glass. Plenty of deep malt and caramel in the aroma, and even deeper in the taste. Full bodied , with an initial sweet, thick and rich taste, but it is well balanced as the hops remove any lingering sweetness.

Put this in a bottle and send it up here, great cool weather beer!

Ordered at Nashville's Bosco's on tap

A- Surprised initially that it was as dark as it was, but in a good way. It was dark like a porter or stout. Very dark brown almost black with mild head.

S- Roasted malts and toffee with some chocolate.

T- Much like the nose with hints of smoke

M- Nice mouthfeel, mild carbonation and solid body

D- Might be my favorite at Bosco's, goes great with the pizza they serve with meat.

A - Dark brown with a fizzy light brown head.

S - Hooray malt! Very strong aroma of toasted malts and toffee. Hints of chocolate as well. Very very malty aroma.

T - Well balanced taste of roasted chocolate malt, sweet molasses, and a light hop bite at the end.

M/D - Medium bodied and just the right level of creaminess. A very drinkable ale.

Very nice stuff. A complex, rich malt base. Quite dark without becomming roasty. Toasty, molassas, and toffee flavors with not astringency. Hopped for a pleasant bitter balance. Pungent earthy and a bit dirty. Mild smoky (campfire) flavors and aromas. A touch of spice. Very firm medium-full body with a delicate creaminess. Strong and powerful. Alcohol sweetness persists along with the dirty sweet aftertaste.

This was an excellent scotch ale that pleased on just about every level. It was served in a standard pint glass and poured a medium to dark brown. It exhibited medium to light carbonation and a med. head with light lacing. It had a smoky peat nose with just enough smoky flavor to add to the body without overpowering or lessening the drinkability. It finished very smooth and left me wanting another immediately. I found most of the beers here to be of excellent quality, and would recommend a stop to any BA who finds themself in Nashville.

Appearance: Arrives beautifully at the table with a cloudy mocha color and a frothy tan head - looks like a lighter version of a stout; plenty of creamy lacing

Smell: Rather undistinguished, with just a bit of malt

Taste: Again, a relatively low profile on the malt front for a Scottish but it is well attenuated and somewhat peaty with a slightly bitter finish

Mouthfeel: Creamy mouthfeel with modest carbonation

Drinkability: The appearance and mouthfeel of he cask conditioned product (using Whitbread Ale yeast) makes up for the unexpectedly understated taste; I rather enjoyed it in spite of its faults

I keep finding myself dinging Boscos for making such middle-of-the-road beers. I guess I feel like they are holding back in the interest of making beers that are as broadly appealing as possible, so perhaps I'm being too hard on them. Nonetheless, this beer just wasn't beefy enough to meet my expectations for a Scottish ale - some mild smoked notes, but not enough to say it was peaty. Pleasant malt flavor, but not malty enough. Scottish ale light?

Had on-tap at Boscos with a Margherita pizza.

Beer was poured with little head but was a lovely copper-garnet color. Smell was malty sweet but, like previous reviewers have mentioned, not as complex as one might expect considering the variety of malts used. The taste and mouthfeel are quite enjoyable though, as the malt/hop balance is very level and the finish fades from caramel sweetness to a delightful bitter pang.

I would have had another but decided to sample the witbier instead.

Pours a dark brown with a medium white head that sticks around for a while. The aroma is sweet with a bit of caramel and smoky-peat. The flavor is much the same. Nice strong malty ale based on a caramel and peat flavor. Finishes with a bitter kick. Has a medium body. Nice beer. OG = 1.066, IBU = 32

Dark brown with a good, lasting head. The aroma is sweet and malty with just a bit of peat. The same goes for the flavor, although the flavor is just a tad bit thin. I like my scottish ales to be a little richer. There’s a light bitterness in there as well. Tasty, but I enjoyed the porter much more.
