Just opened after spending a couple of years in the back of the fridge. Wife got this for my b-day in June in either 2013 or 2014. The bottle says 2013 on it though. My review might be a little skewed because it's aged and the hops have probably diminished. So I have no idea what a fresh one tasted like. I don't crave brown ales too often, but have to say this is pretty spectacular. Smell of hazelnut mixed with cocoa. I like the thick rich look and thick, creamy, silky feel. Taste of dark rich malt, hazelnut, almond, some bread, caramel, chocolate, a tad bit of coffee and maybe some mocha. I can see where this would be a great pairing with the cheese for which this beer was brewed for. I guess when it comes down to any style in the imperial category, I'll like it. Wish I would've snagged more of these. Rogue knows how to do it.

Sorta forgot about this guy in the cellar. No bottled on date, but at least 3 years old. Poured into a tulip.

Pours a clear dark brown with a finger or so of a tan head. The foam fades quickly into lacing and spotty coverage.

The aroma off this thing is great. Toffee, chocolate, caramel, cocoa, maybe a little hazelnut, some light vineous or sherry notes likely from the extended aging.

The flavors mix really well. It tastes of toffee, a little coffee or mocha flavor, a little nutty. The hops have faded, but there's an underlying floral or earthy character. This really is delicious. It reminds me a little bit of a hazelnut latte .

The mouth feel is thick and creamy. It's full bodied, but goes down well.

Overall this is great. It's a shame I didn't forget about two or three more of these.

Jumped on this when I saw it, just cause the bottle was awesome. The beer was just as good.

Deep garnet, medium brown in the glass. Moderate head recedes to bubbles lining the glass. Aroma is malt, British yeast and alcohol. Taste of toast, and light chocolate nuttiness. Medium body. A decent offering.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours crystal clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, cocoa, and fruity yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toast, toffee, brown bread, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toast, toffee, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, nuttiness, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, cocoa, and fruity yeast ester flavors; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly creamy, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial brown ale. All around good complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, cocoa, and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

750 ml bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. The Rogue Creamery 80th Anniversary Ale, beautiful and appealing blue ceramic bottle. I acquired this guy from the local beer store. 8.50% abv, according to BeerAdvocate, not listed on the bottle anywhere.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a dark woodsy caramel brown colored body, a dark ruby mahogany color in the glass. Two thick fluffy fingers of dark khaki / borderline mocha head. Some nice spotty lacing. It looks very nice.

S - The smell is pretty light and indistinct, especially for a beer of this nature. There is some lots of grainy / earthy / roasty malt content, some caramel, some light nuttiness, & some slight metallic notes.

T - The taste follows the nose - slightly indistinct malt roast, caramel / light nuttiness, some powdery baking chocolate / cocoa, some mild cola, and some roasty coffee bean bitterness. Light creaminess. Some mild char elements present.

M - The feel is crisp, dry, roasty, and bitter. Lingering cocoa. Carbonation is lightly spritzy, but it fades quickly. Lightly creamy, but the carbonation keeps me from calling it "smooth", but it is very easy drinking, considering the moderate abv.

Overall, a fairly simple, if slightly above average brown ale offering from Rogue. Very dark and roasty; borderline porter status. Glad to have tried it out, but it's not something I would want again.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy goes down really easy almost too easy lol. Really like this beer and I am by no means a Rogue fan usually.
