i have never seen this one before from these guys. my suspicion here, based on the listings, is that they obviously brewed a dopplebock for old chicago, and there must have been some kegs leftover that went to places not named old chicago. falling rock downtown is one of them. this is my theory, maybe there are two beers, but i think its the same thing. either way, the beer is excellent, a really pretty classic example of the style, and if i was told it was made in germany by one of the old world guys, i would have believed it. dark copper color, clear though, with a short but last just off white head, airy and light for the style and for the color. it smells great, caramely and like fresh baked bread, really excellent. nutty and sweet, but not too sweet, and you can really taste and appreciate the german lager yeast. theyve done a nice job with some layers here, notes of red apple and dried cherry at times, even brandy here. its not too strong to drink a few pints either, they nailed the abv as well. very very authentic beer, plenty of body, and a snappy finish for a malty beer. really tasty. they should do more to get this one out there, i think it would have an audience.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
