Bought 1 12 ounce can at total wine, bottled on 09/03/19. Poured flat, no head, no bubbles, taste flat, dead. For a pilsner its awful, I guess I got a bad batch because I truly enjoy Rogue beers.

Appearance - Pours a slightly hazy honey gold with four fingers of frothy white head.

Smell - earthy and spicy saaz hops, earthy undertones of spruce tips and other earthy aromas, bready pilsner malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - earthy and spicy saaz hops upfront. The spruce tips come through next with a nice punch of "forest floor" aromas. The bready pilsner malts and earthy yeast round out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes crisp and clean with the spruce tips and hops lingering.

Overall - An interesting take on the pilsner style by adding Alaskan spruce tips. A highly drinkable brew that displays the spruce elements well in the taste. A nice tipple on this summer evening here in Cowtown.

Like all Rogue beers, boring. Tastes like a run of the mill pilsner with veeerrrry minimal flavor added from the spruce tips. Not a bad pilsner, but not a great one by any stretch unless you've never had one before. The only appealing part of this brew is the color. Nice golden yellow. But that's where the satisfaction ends.

I'm irritated they got me again for another uninteresting beer. I'm beginning to think after half a dozen of their beers that none of them are particularly good, which makes the price point of their beer even more irritating. I think this beer is the straw that broke the camel's back. I think I'm officially done with Rogue and their mediocrity.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a pilsener glass, "canned date" 11/08/20.

APPEARANCE: pours a cloudy, golden color with two-fingers white head that quickly dissipated until a thin, broken layer of small bubbles remained, there is light lacing on the glass, medium carbonation.

SMELL: sweet bread and spruce forest.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet bread then an earthy spruce pine taste that persisted.

PALATE: medium body and carbonation.

OVERALL: this is really different, not off-putting but I wonder if the spruce idea would work better in a pale ale or IPA, I would not seek this out again but it was worth a try, the beer is way overpriced at $12.99 for a six pack of cans, this seems to be the biggest issue I have with this brewer and keeps me from having more of their beers.

i remember when yellow snow was an ipa a bunch of years ago, did that go away or are their two with the same name now? i also remember having a beer at their newport restaurant and taproom this summer when i visited just called spruce tip pilsner, and not really loving it. i wonder if this is a remake of that, or that was a test batch, or maybe the same beer but since it was summer not called yellow snow. in any event, this seems markedly better, still a little fuller on the grain side for winter here, but less objectively malty, a shade lighter it looks like, drier too, than the spruce tip pils was. i think the spruce is still pretty mild here too, identifiable sure, but not in a starring role at all, lightly spicy and botanical, but at the same level as the grain and the lager yeast, which is mild and european to me, and does a nice job crisping this up despite it being a little more sturdy than is common. i think the spruce kind of works like hops would in a more traditional czech style pils, adding a little bitterness and some herbal nuance without being dominant in any way, quite restrained actually, but i like what they add, that is what makes the beer interesting. nicely carbonated and easier drinking than it seems like it should be with the fuller body, and super cleaned up from the beer i had this summer, it must be something else entirely or else have evolved a whole lot since then. very good, appropriate for the season, stands out from the crowd but not over flavored, ill buy more of this.

2 day old can poured into a pilsner glass. Medium yellow color that is crystal clear with a pale white 1 finger head that settles into a white crown and solid lacing. The smell is special to be sure: spruce, pine, floral hops, sweet tangerine, among some other finer notes including what may be sage. The taste follows suit with pilsner malt up front in strong sweet breadcrumb flavor, paired well with a funky yet clean spruce and tangerine esque lemon note on the finish (lemongrass?). The mouthfeel is an expected pilsner dry with a moderately full body, although it can be a bit sticky on the palate.

This is a unique pilsner to be sure: not like a German or a czeck pils to be honest, it is quite delicious nonetheless. Very refreshing and the Alaskan spruce tips were a genius addition to this pilsner!

The pour is dark yellow. The taste is sweet corn, light malts, & lemongrass. I highly recommend this beer if you can get it. Cheers! B

Poured from the can into a Libbey style pilsner glass. Canned October 10th 2019.

Deep brass color, with a faint hint of brown to it, and mostly clear with fine carbonation. Head is fluffy white, and sits with a good two easy fingers with real nice retention. A bit of faint lacing rounds it out. Very nice looking pilsner.

Very neat aroma. This comes off very clean and crisp but with a thick almost minty like sweetness on the nose. Hints of green herbs, in a sweet angle that is real unique.

Palate sticks back to basics with a unique twist. A bit of playful if heavy carbonation but a supportive body and mouthfeel, giving a crisp somewhat gaseous malt presence, but a thick green herbal like twist to the beer. Sappy aftertaste but not sticky in flavor as well, with still much of that minty/sage like flavor dominating the beer.

Unique tasting pilsner that is drinkable.
