on tap at their downtown newport spot, a nice easy drinking wheat beer for summer, less belgian than anticipated, citrus forward and very clean, a mellower example of the style but a well made beer like they all are from rogue. i have just gotten used to these guys as a brewer of bold and creative beers, and most of what i had here was in line with that, but this one felt a little safe. its a lot of orange, a clean and simple pale wheat base, and a very understated yeast complexion, less of the banana and spice and fruity esters i am used to in the style, and even though the beer has good flavor, it does seem to be missing that element when i am thinking wit. as a basic american wheat with some citrus, its a fine summer drink, but in the belgian context it leaves a little bit to be desired. the grain has a lighter less expansive texture than many, and the orange makes it a touch sweet. overall not a bad beer but definitely one of the least exciting on their beer list when we were in and not a particularly faithful take on a belgian wit. if this is some sort of american hybrid fine, but it was just a beer to me.
