they are calling this a white stout, but since we do not have a category for that here on BA, i have a real hard time listing it as an american stout, because it really isnt that. that said, its one of the more interesting white stouts ive ever had, mainly because there is no coffee in it. they achieve the body with oats and wheat, and the roastiness from cocoa nibs alone, really a pretty interesting beer, and the kicker is that its also pretty hoppy, which i have not yet seen in a white stout, sabro in this instance, and it actually works, something about the fruitiness with the dry cocoa that gives it kind of a candied orange and chocolate coconut vibe, weird but by the third sip or so i have convinced myself its good weird. its a little hazy, pale orange color, and with just a short white head on it. the nose is chocolate forward and protein rich it seems, some light vanilla to it, the citrusy and tropical fruit from the hops, and a nutty malt layer as well. in the taste there is a little more sweet chocolate, some bitterness too though from the nibs, lots and lots of body holding on to some grain sweetness through the whole drink, and finally the hops emerging on the finish. this is unlike anything i have ever had, even other white stouts, so its cool for that reason. a complex and challenging brew, and overall i quite like it, even if its one of the more bizarre beers i have had in recent memory...
