new cold ipa as the name suggests, this style has certainly brought the puns along for the ride. anyway this is nice and crisp and clean and bright on tap at the newport pub, very pale in appearance, not much malt to this, good clarity, short white head on the draw. aroma and flavor are already familiar, not as adventurous as i generally look for from rogue, but appealing and fresh. clover honey, canned pineapple, sticky sativa, and like a white dessert wine, fruity but sweet for a flash, whats there in the smell is there in the taste too. the ferment seems a little crisper than a lot of their beers, at least their ales, not quite a lager, but their house yeast is generally pretty identifiable and it seems tame here, if its even the same strain. dont mind the crispness, there is a little minerality that pops out in the dry finish too, could be described as a little coppery at temperature, but i dont mind it. the hops have some richness in the center in the absence of a bigger malt profile, oily and northwestern with some clean citrus character too, i like the linger. some mild bitterness but low overall as it often is in this style, a solid rippable pint on the whole, nice to see so many new flavors from rogue recently, they are at their best when they are trying new things!
