Rogue Ales "Dead Guy Imperial IPA"
19.2 fl. oz. can, "CANNED 07/25/2025" and sampled on 12/24/2025
$3.49 @ HyVee #1470, Omaha, NE
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a hazy deep golden-amber colored body beneath a short head of white foam that doesn't seem to be holding up too well. The aroma is fruity with lots of apple, some apricot, pear, and some citrus and melon over a lightly sweetish, bready, and caramelish malt base. The taste is similar. It's sweetish, bready, and very caramelish with notes of melon, apple, citrus, herbs, apricot, pineapple, papaya, and flowers. The alcohol is apparent but at 9.6% ABV that's to be expected, and in an Imperial IPA it's also to be desired. Without the alcohol it would seem as if something is missing, and it wouldn't dry as readily as it does in the finish with the amount of bitterness that's there. Given the amount of sweet malt that's there a few more IBUs would be nice except that this follows the "Dead Guy" lead, which is sweet, so it all makes sense. It's not cloying, mainly because of the alcohol, but it is malty and sweetish and on the borderline. A touch of piney or spicy hops might help to brighten it and round it out better but it's still OK as it is, and again, this is based on the original Dead Guys so it all makes sense. In the mouth it's full bodied and smooth with a moderate carbonation. A bit more carbonation might also help to balance it but I can also see why they may have kept it as-is to keep the smooth and silky mouthfeel. Overall I find it kind of clumsy and slightly out of balance, and when you add onto that the fact that the alcohol kills the head retention and lacing and you've got a beer that doesn't even live up to the expectations of the original "Dead Guy".

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours orange red with a fluffy white head. Smells of bright floral and citrus hops. Tastes of crisp citrus and floral hops. Beer is medium to full bodied yet easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Drinking out of a small snifter.
Pours a clear bright coppe with a moderate head.
Smells some of pine.
Good mouth feel.
Malt comes through with sweetness on the taste. Also bitterness in the back of the mouth from hops.

Old school west coast DIPA! Not a 2025 wannabe pale hazy whatthefuckever poser DIPA. Balanced, sweet, bitter, dangerously chuggable. Leave it to OR to slide this one under the radar. Going back to BevCo tomorrow and emptying the shelf.

Copenhagen 2/6 2025. 56 cl tall can from Meny, Nordens Plads, Frb. F. Rogue's usual Dead Guy design with crouching skeletal fellow with a beer mug. This time with a red background.
Pours unclear amber with a mid-sized white head. A bit bubbly. Settles as a thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a sweet, fermented and boozy odor mingling with more subdued citric notes. A bit rough. Mango and peach. Hints of decay and alcohol. Grapefruit and lime.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture.
Flavor s intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and a bit rough. Notable sweet, boozy undertone. Lingering. Finish is boozy and semi-dry.
Potent, rough and boozy..... for a Dead Guy.

BOD 11-28-2023. This beer pours a golden orange with a medium off-white foamy head. The aroma is citrus and malt with a little alcohol. Very little hop bitterness in the taste and some citrus, but you do notice the alcohol. Strong and smooth finish.

ROGUE DEAD GUY IMPERIAL IPA 9.2 abv
This beer comes in a red can and pours a dark amber color. The taste brings a citrus forward flavor with a apple cinder backbone and a tart fruit flavor. I can tell there is a 9.6 percent alcohol in the taste as the body does not cover the flavor like some brews can. It’s a fine brew but I would not pick a can to drink in the future. This brew got awards in both USA and in Japan in 2024.

From a tall aluminum can, this beer pours a cream-colored, honey-orange color. The head is magnificent...tall, white, and plenty of lace. Hoppy aroma...resin-like pine scents with rustic bread crust underneath. Wonderful. There is a notable boozy scent as well. The taste has a dry, bitter, malty flavor. Wonderful. The body is hefty and the warming is notable. I really enjoyed this one.
