From notes, Reviewed as part of a Wig-and-Penathon tasting Sat Oct 1st , between myself and mrs heygeebee
Pours a lovely deep brown with russet hues, Half a finger with lacing down the glass.
Aromas of roasts and some smoke
Taste is a bit of a let down, I was thinking a hand pumped porter at cask temp should be sensational on the palate, but it was a bit one dimensional latte-ish.
Mouthfeel is weak, thin and watery. No real body to speak of.
Overall, not the best.

Re-reviewed in 2011 - this gets a slight bump up with the 2011 edition of this beer. The coffee notes have been accentuated in both the aroma and flavour contibuting to a much more rounded and nicer porter. There is now plenty of flavour rocking along in this beer. Very good.
The 2009 review:
Pours a rich, deep black with a creamy, coffee coloured head. Great head retention.
Aromas could be stronger. I get roast for the most part with hints of chocolate. Quite smooth.
Good chocolate and coffee flavours are the highlights with a slightly earthy but not overpowering bitterness playing a support role. Slightly creamy and just a hint of smoke and fruit finishes the beer.
Medium body and low carbonation make this beer a good choice for winter.
This is a tasty brew with a nice, moderate ABV. A great winter beer that I will be sure to enjoy more of.
