February 19th, 2015 - Here's one of my first beers in Japan, kicking one week lecture series, and there's nothing that could be more representative of my love of Japan and Spring then a sip of yuzu beer. This is the Barren Iwate Yuzu Wit, served with some regret in my hotel's paper cup. I can only see the heavy foam billowing out of the dwarfish cardboard vessel, but I can get some of the aroma. It's slightly sour and has more wit than yuzu, but there's a hint of that citrus fruit there. There's much to love about the taste, which is a great deal more sour and citric, without being sweet. The acidic quality makes this more of a citrus tinged witbier and a shadow of yuzu in the background.
