On tap at brewpub, May 2009. Spring seasonal.
Appearance: Reddish amber/brown, only slightly cloudy, with one finger light beige head receding to a thin film and leaving good lacing.
Aroma: Lots of smooth maltiness, with bitter caramel and nuts.
Taste: Heavy maltiness, nuts, cloves, cinnamon, and gentle treacle, with distant ginger, nutmeg, and vanilla. Tickly hops that are well tempered with a smooth, malty, nutty, spicy, slightly treacly finish that is soft and lingers for a moderate length of time. Very slight hint of rootbeer noticed only once. Overall taste is a cross between a nutty nut brown and a winter ale.
Mouthfeel: Thicker side of medium bodied, crisp, slightly dry.
Drinkability: Very good, unexpectedly spicy and rewarding. The strength of Big Ridge tends to be in their seasonal brews.
