Once a year in March, Tamamura Honten Shiga Kōgen hosts the Snow Monkey Beer Live as "a celebration of beer and music" at the Shiga Kōgen Ski Resort in Nagano Prefecture, just in time to bid farewell to the ski season and usher in the coming of Spring.
The event is quite possibly the biggest outdoor beer event of its kind in Japan and is usually attended by any and all Japanese breweries worth their salt, also reknown for inviting big name foreign guests, with this year's being Oxbow, Jester King, and Hair of the Dog.
As a way of commemorating the event, the good people at Tamamura Honten have been brewing a special IPA bearing the name of the festival, only available for a short period of time before and after the festival itself in limited bars and bottleshops around the country.
This year's iteration seems to separate itself from Shiga Kōgen's previous IPA offerings with its crisp and superbly refreshing mouthfeel, yet sporting a nice bitter kick towards the end; it actually drinks like a crossover between their Miyama Blonde and their year-round flagship IPA.
Doesn't come close to beating out Sono Jū in terms of being a complete IPA, but I'd definitely pick up a sixer of this if I saw it in a local bottleshop somewhere.
