It looks like expresso
pitch black body below three mm thick tight tan tiny bubbles
It smells like freshly brewed coffee and a full strength Marlboro deep inhale
The taste is likewise smoky coffee very little sweetness sawdust malts and hints of blackcurrant
Good carb good mouthfeel thats easy drinking
makes a good bottled mild and
considering how much the style suffers when bottled
that is a glowing recommendation

On cask at the GBBF, 2011.
Chocolate black with oil puddle film. Fresh roasted coffee cherries on the nose.
Mild ash and blackberry up front, caramelized sugar middle, and sarsaparilla bark end - all very understated.
Kola hints to end, sugary linger. Soft, round, light to medium.
Many layers and very drinkable, but I'm not going crazy for this one. I'm very keen on the style, but this wouldn't win me over. All too muted.

Sampled at NERAX. 3.5% abv for this cask.
This ale poured a very dark brown with a wisp of foam. The smell was dark roasted malt. The taste was dark roasted malt with a bit of caramel. Not much hop flavor. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy with medium body and moderate carbonation. There was a bit of astringency in the mouthfeel. The drinkability was good. A nice, mild ale.
