Tasted by a half pint recently at a local Wetherspoon pub, The Capitol, in Forest Hill, SE London. Served by a handpump w/o a sparkler.
A: dark amber in colour with good clarity, coming with a thin layer of off-white foam and very stable carbonation.
S: extremely hoppy on the nose... with lots of spicy hints like Goldings or Styrian Goldings(?); the mild biscuity malt entry, flowery scent of hops, and touches of longan fruits all emerge after a good swirl of the glass, showing rather mixed hop profile.
T: juicy malts and longan-fruit tea come hand in hand with flowery hop's aroma+flavour... my tongue picks up quite colourful yet soothing American hop characters, while a caramely and brown-sugary maltiness wraps the hops in the middle, laced with a sour edge of nectar. Dryish in the end with a lingering bitterness and hop aroma like flower-stems.
M&D: juicy, hoppy, on top of a solid malty backbone, this beer (on form it is) tastes smooth on draught, although the body falls a bit thin in the end, alas. Overall this is a quaffable Best Bitter with a pleasant foreign twist of hops (American, I believe).
