In my head, Thin Ice is a Christmas ale, don't know why! Every time I've enjoyed this beer I've got surprisingly trollied! It's abv lies about the affect that it has upon me. TWICE I've fallen off my bicycle while attempting to mount it, and decided to walk home. (This has not happened to me with any other beer.)
I'm intrigued by the taste, and have only drunk it after a session.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2017. Picked up recently from B&M. Described on the label as a pacific pale ale; hopped with NZ Green Bullet, Nelson Sauvin and English First Gold.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A crystal-clear pale gold hue with good carbonation. Forms a small head of white foam that lasts for a moment before reducing to a surface layer.
S: Aroma of light malt with hints of stewed hops, mild grass/hay, a touch of grain and a whisper of overcooked veg. Pretty clean but uninteresting.
T: Tastes of grassy hops with a light character. Notes of hay/grass, faint fruity hints, subtle husky grain, pale malt and stewed hops. A crisp bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is light and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and decent body for the style. Aftertaste of husks and bitter stewed hops; an acrid note lurks in the background.
O: Well made but rather dull. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are a mix of pale malt and light hops. The body is alright. Not much evidence of the exciting hop varieties listed on the label, nor much citrus either. Goes down easily enough but I can't see myself bothering with it again. No need to hunt it down.

Grainy flavour. Notes of tobacco. Bitter finish.
Light carbonation. Quite soft.

Bottled
A clear pale golden colour with a frothy white head. Aroma of lemon, some orange, slight grapefruit, subtle pale malts and grassy hops. Taste of lemon, orange, subtle grapefruit, a little wheat, pale malts and grassy, herbal hops. Light bodied and an oily texture. A dry, lingering, slightly tangy, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. It’s refreshing and citrusy yes but not a lot else. Isn’t well balanced and a slightly tangy finish. Below average.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before the end of feb 2012, poured into a 'Batemans' badged UK pint sleeve.
Light orange body, the wispy head disappeared before it arrived and what collar it produced was weak. The beer was clear, but boring in looks.
The smell was poor, some orange notes and some sour citrus bits, but nothing much.
The taste was citrusy and bitter, the malts doing very little in the way of flavouring, they just prevented the beer being too hop orientated. Both Barley and Wheat malts are used in the brew which has been made by the head brewer and the brewpubs head chef: according to the bottles rear label that is what they normally do.
This beer goes with BBQ's, fish and spicy dishes, again according to the rear label. I had some salt and peppery snacks with it.
All in all, not bad, but its looks, lack of aroma combined with a fairly dull taste means it hasn't really been a beer I'll have again.
