The second beer tasted at the Piglet 2 Mini-Beerfestival, Leyton, London, 24/02/06. Gravity-dispensed from the barrel.
A: a beautiful amber to light-copper hue with very good clarity, coming with a 1-cm fluffy beer head and low carbonation.
S: juicy malts and nutty note upfront, against a semi-thick hoppy backbone full of wild flower and faintly orangey hints, while the hoppyness gradually pierces through the delicious malty platform. Very solid and aromatic.
T: wow... if I should find a more imagery way to describe it, it's like sipping a medium-dry Sauvignon Blanc straight after a mouthful of warm, whole-leaf black tea~~ slightly mineral and sharp citrus fruit juice accompanies the maltiness, backed by more subtle lychee-blossom fragrant flavour; slowly tunning down and leading to spicy, pineapple-ish juicy fruity, and tea-ish aftertaste which lingers pretty well, while a slightly tannic-bitter touch rounds off the palate in the very end.
M&D: fairly smooth and the good-bodied hoppyness with the tannic edge brings a lot of lively feel to the palate. Overall, a very fruity and juicy hoppy ale with a subtle balance on the aroma as well as on the palate. Very enjoyable and solid pale ale/bitter~~ (Bronze award 2005 Newcastle beer festival)
