A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2015, so it's a little out of date. Picked up a while back from a farm shop near Cambridge.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned and very lively; bit of a gusher. A dark reddish-brown hue with ruby highlights and intense carbonation. Produces a massive head of creamy light-brown foam with excellent retention; this slowly subsides to a thick surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of dark malt with hints of roasted grain, mild chocolate, subtle coffee, a touch of molasses, earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves. A twinge of sourness in the background. Not bad.
T: Tastes of mild roasted malt with a dry finish. Notes of dark malt, mild chocolate, faint coffee, a twinge of molasses, earthy yeast, stewed leaves and a whisper of sourness. Highly attenuated, followed by a delicate bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with prickly carbonation and a rather insubstantial body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of mild roasted malt, earthy yeast and stewed leaves/cardboard.
O: Decent enough - perhaps just a tad too old. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are a blend of subtle roasted grain, chocolate hints and earthy yeast. So-so body; a bit too fizzy. A worthy take on the style that goes down easily. Worth trying if you come across it.
