another splendid german beer from these guys, and rightly a gabf winner this year, silver i think, well done! the refinement is lovely, which is sort of their calling card here i am learning, darker amber to chestnut colored with a high sudsy just off white head, nice shine to it, great carbonation, textbook really. the nose here isnt as sort of raisin and cocoa as a lot of them can be, for its color the malt really isnt crazy deep, it has some medium tan leather, brown sugar, and maple notes, autumnal right away and a touch sweet which is appropriate in the style, fallen leaves, a hint of hazelnut, of course german breadiness and lager yeast as well here, tidy and fresh and classic really, even if a little less robust on the dark grain side. beautiful flavors follow the nose, nutty indeed, cozy to me without being too sugary or strong or anything that usually leads to cozy, which is neat. leather, cola, amaretto, dark toast, and leather with just subtle late fruitiness to it, smooth to drink with nice body and a pleasant malty recall after each sip. carbonation is peppy and gives a lot of life to this, and the overall quality is again profound. these guys are doing it right, some of the best german beer ive had from anywhere, including germany! they should be proud of this. an exciting beer in an often unexciting style, purely because of how well made it is. criminally underrated.

Poured a clear, brownish color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of caramel and floral notes. It tasted of sweet caramel, toffee and a hint of bitterness.
