Glad I finally found my notes on this one as it seemed to be on tap for only about a nanosecond.
It pours a dark brown to near black colour with a tan head that shows a tiny, tiny hint of a pink-colour from the cherries.
The aroma is earthy and rugged, very malty with a hint of chocolate. There's a touch of sweetness here but not much of a cherry presence.
Flavour is more of the same. There's a bit more of a burnt/roasted malt flavour here thats not as present in the aroma, and the cherry flavour only really shines through at the finish of each sip and it is very faint indeed. It's actually a nice change of pace from the typical fruit flavoured beers as it's a nice compliment overall to the general flavour. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, straddling the porter/stout line but leaning more toward what a stout should be.
Despite the fact that I heard minor rumblings that the new brewer wasn't crazy about how this one turned out, I kind of liked this one overall. It's got nice flavour to it and doesn't hit you over the head with too much cherry flavour.
