I had this on tap at ABC in Harrisburg - the sign indicated this was brewed for Black Friday hence the name. Served chilled in a pint.
The color is black apropos with thin tan head after settling with fine bead and decent retention. The smell is nice with a moderately high amount of hop aroma with grapefruit-like scent and slight dark roast in the malt smell. The feel is the best part for me since ABC's IPA's tend to be on the malty side -this is more bitter with some roasted malt astringency and mild creamy yeast texture with dry semi resinous feel with long lingering finish with dark malt roasty body.
The taste is very good nice amount of bitterness up front with piney and bitter grapefruit rind form the hops in the taste yet a dark roast flavor with black chocolate in the malt keeps it from being unbalanced completely. The yeast adds a subtle dried fruit accent with some smoke in the back from black malt and dry bitter hoppy finish. Overall this is a very good black ale, I would recommend it to those who like a hop forward example of the style -light alcohol and not overly roast.
