Sigma Oasis from Appalachian Brewing. Purchased on 17/9/21 from Appalachian Brewing, Lititz, PA. 16 oz can in cooler at the store, stored at hotel in reefer. Reviewed 20/9/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Marked on rear label “CANNED ON 06/16/2021”. Served at 51.4 degrees in a hand washed and dried glass coffee mug. Final temperature 55.9 degrees. Unable to adjust hotel reefer temperature.
Appearance – 3.5
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), murkily opaque.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), murkily opaque. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), white, high density quickly opening into froth, average retention, diminishing to a 0.3 cm crown and a complete rocky cap. Wide band of torn curtain lacing remains on the sides of my coffee cup as the head retracts. Second pour produces a one cm head.
Lacing – Good. Wide bands of torn curtain lacing.
Aroma – 3 – Initially weak citrus but this quickly fades to nothing – no malt, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3 – Begins slightly bitter with a hint of citrus hops, no malt, no yeast. No ethanol (6.7 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends slightly bitter.
Palate – 3.25 – Medium, watery but approaching creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3 Very average NEIPA, but then it’s three months old.
