Cameron Street

A - Black body with no light being let through...the head stands two fingers tall and is thick and brown in color...the retention shows a full cap...sheets of lacing

S - Sour and tart raspberries are present with a touch of roasted malt and chocolate

T - Tart raspberries jump out first...they don't stay tart for too long because the roastiness settles in...the roasted malt lasts for a while and it imparts a chocolate flavor that should go well with the raspberries but in reality it comes up short...the finish has more tart raspberries...alcohol is evident

M - Medium bodied...roasted chocolate, tart and sour raspberries, alcohol...finally not a thin body!

O - The concept of the beer should work, but I think this one comes up just short...all the components are there it just needs some tweaking...and the 10% really snuck up on me

Served on-tap at the Original Cameron Street location into a goblet.

A - Pours pitch black with a bubbly one finger tall tan head, dissipating down to a light film, leaving light lacing down the glass.

S - Smells of dark roasted malt, sweet chocolate, dulled coffee, and plenty of tart raspberries. The flavors are nice but they never really molded together to form a cohesive nose.

T - Plenty of tart raspberries up front slowly giving way to a rich mix of dark roast and light chocolate sweetness. Finish is mostly dark roast with some lingering tartness from the raspberries. This one was not too bad but it wore me down quickly and it was quite hard to finish the entire glass.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. This one has a heavy / funky feel with plenty of sweet roast in the finish.

O - Considering that most of the beers I have had from ABC are terrible, this one wasn't too bad. The raspberry matches well with the stout but they never really came together. Good but far from great.

I had this at the Cameron st. location, served on tap in a goblet.

A dark walnut brown color with thick beige cap, lace clings and releases. The bead is fine and clarity is translucent. The smell is faintly fruity with a light caramel malt odor. A mouthfeel that can best be described as 'tangy' and 'fruity' with an almost sweet tart effect that is unexpected in a stout as it finishes there is some sweetness, but the start is very tart and juicy as it finished, but fruitiness and tartness overwhelms the stout character.

There is a good amount of raspberry flavor and tanginess but it is opressive as the feel indicated with slightly roasted flavor hovering and the juicy raspberry wants all the attention. The slight chocolate malt acccent and slight caramel sweetness are all but overwhelmed by the raspberry juiciness in the finish. Overall I call it a raspberry strong ale, since most of the stout characteristics are lost and this has little in common with most Imperial Stouts. Ok as a fruit beer, but needs some restraint on the Raspberry to prevent it from leaving the stout unbalanced.

On tap at the ABC Harrisburg location on 4/8/11.

Served in a pint glass, this brew appears black in color with a dark tan to brown cap of froth. The head recedes to a few bubbles that holds close to the rim of the glass. A light swirl revives some bubbles back to the surface. Lace appears along the glass in a webbing formation.

The smell of this brew is dark chocolate grainy sweetness, somewhat musty in character before a bold almost perfume-like raspberry scent comes into play. There is a light scent of coffee across the back with hops that present themselves with a light herbal touch and somewhat fruity. The overall nose of this brew is sweet with a touch of medicinal quality.

The taste includes a bold amount of tart raspberry flavoring. The greater part of the body of thi brew includes lightly musty chcolate grain, semisweet with coffee. The base stout flavor isn't that bad, it's pleasant with a lingering chocolate flavor. The raspberry inclusion is lightly sweet but gives a lasting impression of tartness which is a bit clashing to the sweetness of the chocolate malt and coffee roast character.

It's a medium bodied brew with a prickly, fizzy amount of carbonation that makes for an interesting feel on the tongue mixed with the tartness of the raspberry. Overall it's quite a warming brew, the 10% is felt but it is well integrated. This brew is worth giving a try but I couldn't drink more than a glass at a sitting.
