Perhaps the disappointment factor played a role because I like ABC and I love Oatmeal Souts, but this did not capture the magic of either. To be fair this release was just for Gettysburg ABC as an experiment. ABC's various sites brew some beers like this throughout the year.
The stout was a very dark brown with a light brown head. The smell was that of an average oatmeal stout a bit earthy and sweet smelling. Very smooth and left remains on glass a decent amount, but not really beyond noteworthy.
The taste was unfortunately average, it was not as heavy as the usual ABC stouts and porters, yet it did not capture the oat flavor as well as other Oatmeal stouts. Still not a bad beer, just overwhelmingly ok.
Overall average, but I hope that ABC Gettysburg can learn from this batch and make it better! Love the creativity and the attitude of pioneering, cheers!
