On Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad – Standard pint glass
Notes taken from 10/12/13
Nice to see some new offerings up in rotation.
A: Well conditioned light amber gold body adorned with a choppy white foam top. Modest stubborn finger width of suds that leaves some sticky splash upon the glass after each sip.
S: Smells like a Citra bomb. Grapefruit and light gooseberry meets with some pine and danky herbals. I get some light pale malt sweetness underneath. Mostly hop forward and very clean aroma overall.
T: Delivers on a great Citra hop flavor profile of grapefruit, gooseberry, and dank resins. Much more herbal than the nose lead on. There is a firm caramel malt base with some light crackery bits but it is within well balance and not overly sweet. Moderate to high levels of hoppy bitterness and just a kick of alcohol towards the finish which is otherwise well disguised here. The Citra DIPA has been done over by now but with that said this is a solid brew. The balance here is just great.
M: Moderate body with a nice spritzy texture from the carbonation. Big resinous bitterness across the palate with a firm drying crisp on the finish. Touch of ABV warmth but it is minimal.
D: I don’t know if you know this …but this beer is kind of a Big Deal. A tribute to San Diego greatness. Nice big Citra Dipa with great drinkable balance. Once again Pizza Port does not disappoint on the hops. In an oversaturated market of IPA’s this one might get passed up...the Citra’s have been done plenty times over. But this is one is done well. Would definitely order up again.
