Damn I really liked this brew... had it on draft at PP Solana Beach. As one would expect from a double red ale, the color is a beautiful deep reddish-brown, like cherry wood. Makes for a really attractive-lloking pint, with a thin but creamy head. The nose is quite fruity, with raspberries. What I like about this beer is that it has got that distinct West coast hopping, even though it is not a hop monster by any stretch. The nice caramel malt is allowed to do its thing, with an initial candied orange and toffee sweetness, but the hoppiness reigns it in and makes sure it doesn't get cloying or overwhelming. The finish is crisp and actually drier than expected, but then the residual sweetness comes back and lingers. If you like a slightly sweeter beer with good balance, then this is one you should seek out. Excellent.
