Sampled on tap at the Carlsbad brewpub.
This doppelbock poured a clear, dark chestnut color with thin, white foam that settled and dissipated completely. The smell was dark and malty with some mild mollasses. The taste was dominated by dark malt with flavors of mollasses, dark caramel, dried fruit, and a hint of some fusel alcohols. There was a touch of sweetness. The mouthfeel was smooth and dry up front with a sweet finish. Slightly warming (7.8% ABV). The body was full and the carbonation medium. This was a nice sipping beer.

Sampled fresh from a Growler on the train back from the Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest.
Poursa ruby brown with almost no head, brilliant clarity.
Roasted coffee and burnt caramel and raisin aromas waft up from the glass.
Taste is softly fruity with a long nutty (very pecan like). Hops become evident in the finish with a final mineral touch accentuating the roast.

Norbert is a doppelbock that I've had at both Piza Port San Clemente & Pizza Port Carlsbad. It's a dark brown, medium bodied pour. The nose is malty with hints of roastiness.
The flavor has a bit more hoppiness than I've experienced with other doppelbocks, I prefer a bit more maltiness
