On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad
Full pint - 10/04/2014
A newly featured Wet Hop IPA
A: Lightly burnished goldenrod hue with a dash of hop haze strewn across the body. Smallish ivory white top with moderate hang time and some light beaded webs of lace that crawl down the glass after every sip.
S: The aroma is laced with thick brush pines, resinous and danky, with an herbal weed stem likeness. I get some light undertones of orange citrus as well but this one is more about the fresh piney nuggets. Has a soft caramel malt sweetness although it is fairly muted in comparison to the hops. Nice wet hop presence in the nose.
T: Flavors are much of the same with sappy pine resins leading the way to some more pronounced herbals and a citrus like tangerine component underneath. The beer has a nice mid level amount of peppery bitterness and the alcohol is near completely masked. Malt is a touch of grainy cracker playing back seat. Not a game changing brew but still tasty, smooth, and well balanced
M: Light to moderate body with a smooth and creamy texture from the carbonation. There is a modest amount of hop bitterness that puckers at the palate and drives through to a drying resinous finish.
D: Very drinkable with some nice danky pine like wet hop attributes. Not quite up to par as some of Pizza Ports fresh hop brews of past have been but I am glad for the season to be here and checking out this freshie.
