February 8th, 2015 - Damn, this is a fine name, and I hope it's a fine beer. With a dark body that barely permits a peek of red light to shine through, it is mysterious looking and deeply shy, with a heady top also obscuring further digestion. A little probing finds the aroma which is definitely malty but the nature of the malt is a little hard to pin down. There's some pumpernickel, but a fellow taster suggests it might be more akin to those Hawaiian rolls that come in orange packages. Moving to the next chapter, I find the flavor is exceedingly sweet, rich in grape sugars and a bit of plum. A thinner palate doesn't help much to dilute this sweetness, though it does provide a nice foaminess, like a nitro. But the conclusion is this: sugars reign supreme.
