This beer is described as a traditional German Style weizenbock made with a Bavarian yeast, wheat malt, Rye malt and smoked Bamberg malt. I obtained a few of these 12 oz. unmarked bottles from the Brewpub's cellar thanks to the generosity of their brewer, Tomme Arthur. The bottle is now about 21-22 months old. This beer was amazing fresh. Now, onto the cellared sample...
Deep garnet. Some haze and particulate matter from the bottle conditioning are noted. A creamy light beige head forms slowly upon the pour. The retention of this thin head is great. The lace keeps time with rings.
Outstanding nose. Bavarian character through and through. The Weizen characteristics are still bold...Clove, banana, pepper, vanilla. A spiciness is present as well (from the wheat and rye I presume). And it still has some nice subtle smoke notes.
The taste is huge on the yeast and bread tones. A delicate, but meaty, smokiness compliments the lemon pepper laced body of this beer which consists of wheat malt, clove, banana, prunes and raisin.
The beer flows like a river over my tongue. Silky and velvet like. Carbonation is low, but present. Body is about medium. All of this leads up to a fantastic, easy drinking brew.
Glad I have one more to keep cellaring.
