April 1st, 2015 - Pizza Port (Carlsbad's) Revelations has a very familiar smell, but I can't quite seem to pin it down. I'm dancing around the idea of lemon chicken or sesame chicken, and probably from a very specific Chinese restaurant, but the exact meat and recipe eludes me. But this dark golden brew smells like that dish, consumed long ago, and apparently forgotten to memory. The flavor is much the same too, but sweeter than the smell suggests, and much too sweet for me. Though this is only a taster, I leave a couple ounces in the glass and move on.

On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.
Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, spices, fruit, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor and an alcohol kick on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty but fairly boozy and strong.
