On tap in OB!

A: Deep golden bronze with a thick white head! Head retention on this one was ridiculous! Great looking beer!

S: Citrus, pine, and sweet malt! Pungent and wets the nostrils! Smells great !

T: Perfectly balanced! Pine citrus and malt all mix together to make one tasty brew! Taste like a west coast 60 minute!

M: Resinious and wet! Coats the mouth and goes down like silk! No alcohol detected and super drinkable!

O: Outstanding brew from Port! Definitely the strongest of their line up and a great west coast IPA ! Get it if you see it! Cheers!

I would like to start by saying I am quite pleased that I ordered this one. I had a pint at The Brickskeller in D.C. this weekend. This is a super flavorful beer with a super hoppy taste that any IPA lover will fall in love with right away. This one opens with great aromas of citrus that let you know your in for some flavor. The taste is one of the best American IPA's I have had to date. This one should be on your list to try if you love IPA's!

On tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach

A: Pours a clear, orangish straw yellow with a decent white head and interesting lace (sheet and blobs).

N: Fresh citrus, super clean and bright. A little herbal and grassy.

T: Really hop forward comes on strong with a resiny and oily finish. A faint malt backing is barely there.

M: Light body, so easy to drink.

O: Wow, just a few weeks on since the harvested hops (citra and simcoe) combine to make a marvelous elixir. Glad it is harvest season.

Reviewed from notes taken at Pizza Port Carlsbad.

A- Golden orange body from the keg into a pint glass. Super creamy white head grows to a finger high and sticks around with good retention. Eventually falls to thick cloud and ring leaving nice thick lace webs.

S- Fresh hops on the tropical fruit juice side with some floral and citrus beneath. Doesn't knock you out with pungency but smooth and inviting. Slight malted grains beneath but hops lead in this aroma.

T- Hops remind me of Torpedo and Sculpin, not over the top and a slightly less is more approach. Not quite that hop nectar level but still brings great pine, grapefruit, mango peach tropical and some floral hints. Slight Cali Ale yeast and bread, light cracked grains.

MF- Silky lighter end body with the higher end carbonation to support the hop flavors and aromas. Creamy with agitation and finishes moderately bitter.

Pine and citrus forward flavor with a good but not trying too hard fresh level of hops, making it easily drinkable. Port with another good IPA brewed in SoCal, not surprised.

Pizza Port Ocean Beach Edition. On tap at The Brickskeller during its "Whet" Hop Ales event with Tomme Arthur.

Poured a pale yellow color with a bit of an orange tint. Transparent without too much visible carbonation. The nose bring some light citrus and was quite dank. The taste really brought a lot of pine and resin, plus what I'll refer to as some "green heat" from the fresh hops. Feel was really bitter, excessively so. It gave Amyliz4 heartburn it was so bitter. Fantastic finish and superior drinkability.

Pizza Port OB's 2010 fresh hop IPA on tap at PP OB

A: Honey golden with a small white head. An unsatisfactory pour from the bartender.

S: Dank and resinous with notes of pine, fresh cut grass, and grapefruit. It has a strong tropical fruit presence, with notes of mango, passion fruit, and papaya. No alcohol and little malt. As the beer warms the tropical notes become powerful.

T:  Upper moderate level of dry bitterness with evident alcohol. Hop profile is piney and grassy with a nice grapefruit rind and orange pith presence. There's a dash of sweetness midpalate, but it lasts for only a split second. Malt is crackery. The finish is alcoholic and very bitter with notes of mint, orange, pine, and grapefruit. Mint lingers.

M: Dry and sticky with adequate carbonation

Overall: An aggressive and tasty wet hop IPA that drinks like a DIPA.

Pours a crystal clear golden color with white head continuously being fed by the carbonation bubbles migrating from the bottom. Light, lemony notes on the bouquet. Soft, cottony mouthfeel. Lemon and pine flavors. Just a hint of sweet that emerges from the citric bitterness.

From 10/26/10 notes. Had on tap at the Brickskeller during its Wet Hop event with Tomme Arthur. Brought from the Ocean Beach Pizza Port location.

a - Pours a nice golden color with 1 inch of white head and lots of nice lacing. Low carbonation evident.

s - Smells strongly pine and citrus hops, as well as fruity malts.

t - Tastes of citra hops, juicy and bitter in the taste. Also grapefruit and light fruity malts.

m - Light body and low carbonation. Tomme said it was around 7.3% ABV and for that high an ABV, it drinks scary easy.

d - I liked this IPA a lot; I think it may have been my favorite of the night. Lots of pine and citrus hops in the smell and taste, and drinks insanely easy. I would love to try again sometime.

Picked up a growler of this today at Pizza Port here in Ocean Beach for $24.00 and poured it into a stemmed tulip glass.

Brewed onsite at the OB location. Listed at the bar as a Fresh Hop IPA - 7.3 ABV. I asked what the IBU's are, but the girl at the bar wasn't sure.

A: Pours a light honey-like golden hue with a solid fluffy white head that sticks around for the first few sips, leaving solid lace in my glass from start to finish.

S: Major floral hops - hints of jasmine and earthy pine, sweet malt and some citrus in there too.

T: Super resinous & earthy hops up front in a big way, then pink grapefruit, finishing somewhat mossy and sweet with a tasty grain flavor in there too. Love how fresh this stuff tastes!
There are a lot of fresh/wet hop IPA's floating around on the west coast this Fall (and there's a ton of good ones too), but this one comes across as more of a true Cali IPA than the rest - and this is a good thing!

M: Light to medium bodied, sticky and smooth - perfect carbonation for an IPA.

D: As all their other IPA's are - rediculously easy to drink.

- Still no "Had at?" for Pizza Port Ocean Beach location - what gives BA???
