On cask at Pizza Port Carlsbad
A: The beer pours a golden color with a slight haze but the impressive creamy white head that the beer engine can bring. Very nice lacing, too.
S: On the very front end, an excellent grapefruit and tangerine hop aroma is present. You can certainly pick out the mango (and the guava to a lesser extent). The spice of the jalapeno comes much more on the back end.
T: A huge pepper flavor right from the beginning. The mango really comes through and provides a nice sweetness and fruitiness to the beer. The hops are there and lend a bit of bitterness, but they sort of become lost in all the flavor additions.
M: The body is medium and the carbonation is surprisingly lively for a cask pour.
D: As far as pepper beers (and particularly peppered up IPAs), this was pretty good. The jalapeno did not totally overwhelm the beer.

Sampled 2/6/2011 at the brewpub.
Pours bright yellow, clear, fine white head, low retention, and decent lacing.
Aroma is mostly raw chili pepper, a little it of smoke, and plenty of mango.
Flavor is a very interesting combination of pepper, mango, pineapple, orange, a touch of pine, and sweet malt. Thankfully the heat from the peppers is low.
Body is light and refreshing. Quite drinkable.
