Mongo is a big wave of big flavor. This DIPA bursts with classic hoppy character thanks to additions of Columbus, Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops. You can expect massive aromas of citrus with notes of piney bitterness on the finish.

16 oz. Can
CANNED ON: 08/18/25

Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice slightly hazy dark golden orangy color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a very nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango, peach), very nice pine note. The taste is very nice hoppy, malty, very nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango, peach), very nice pineyness. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a very tasty DIPA. A nice take on the style.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of citrus and piney hops, orange, grapefruit and pine; spicy. Flavor follows, with citrus and piney hops, grapefruit, orange, pine, hints of light stone fruit and black pepper. Piney, peppery finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This showed up at my local shop and I was surprised to see I had never reviewed it; but I did review the Port Brewing Mongo and I suspect the two are close in recipe. In this time of rapidly morphing West Coast IPA profiles, it's great to taste a classic citrus and piney West Coaster. This is still my favorite hop profile for IPAs and this one has a nice hop bill, great citrus and nice piney bitterness in the finish. Happy to revisit it. Well done.

Tall can for the amazing price of $1.99 with a date of 02/18/25. Cannot believe I haven’t reviewed this one yet. But PP releases so many beers that this staple of their lineup often gets passed over. Wonder if it’s the same recipe as the Port version. Classic West Coast Double. Rich, pungent, almost voluptuous. Has a uniquely thick body and feel, finishing with that resinous punch in the face you expect. Super fruity, a bit skunky, all the things you want. Underrated it seems. Delicious!

Poured from a 16oz can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Pours a somewhat cloudy burnt orange with over four fingers of soapy white foam head. Almost has like a chill haze thing going on in the glass. Pine, citrus, lemons and a little bit of perceived alcohol on the nose. It’s a nice bouquet. Taste is a little more malt driven with notice alcohol and a sweeter berry finish. Full mouthfeel. Thick. Awesome DIPA.

19.2oz can (packaged 11/1/2024) into a hotel tumbler. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a frothy head.

Aroma is sticky and resinous with copious pine and grapefruit notes. Classic West Coast imperial IPA character.

Taste follows nose. Bitter resinous malt ahead of a sticky chewy malt base. High alpha acids. Great balance between malt and hops.

Mouthfeel is on the heavy side of medium, again sticky with a lingering aftertaste.

Overall an excellent DIPA—not a beer I’d reach for every day but a definite go-to if I’m looking to scratch that big WCIPA itch.

Had this on 2024-12-26 near Pittsburgh, PA from a 160z canned on 2024-09-10

L - Almost clear orange with a 3-finger white head and great lace.

S - Orange, pione, herbal spice

T - Orange fruit and pith, Pine. French bread crust with a great orange zest bitterness finish.

F - Medium-heavy body and medium carbonation.

O - This is a top notch DIPA. I've had it on tap in CA years ago and my fond remembrances are reinforced by the contents of this cam.

16oz can canned 9/10/24 into a nonick pint glass.
L: SRM 12.5 pours a lightly clouded deep amber with a rocky 1/2" domed matte white head, very good steady carbo bubbles, head recedes to heavy creamy froth, medium-heavy complex lacing with some banding.
S: Pineapple, citrus, juicy fruit gum, hard candy, caramel malts emerge more with warming.
T: A sweet candied fruit mix, melon, emphasized and stately pine resin, a long earthy note. It is rich, candy sweet and deeply bitter. Very hop frwd and is gently tart. It has a long lingering resinous finish. I sense light alcohol on the very last drink.
F: Brisk then smooth medium-bodied mouthfeel with a broad center and a long drying finish. It becomes more smooth with warming.
O: Fruity, sweet, resinous, and full-flavored. Has a nice lusterous feel, well masked ABV and not intense. Just bold overall. It drinks fairly easy and is smooth start to finish. It is very good to excellent in its style.

An imperial IPA that drinks about at its ABV with a fruitier than pine/citrus aroma and flavor profile but with a back end of resin that helps enhance moderate, balanced bitterness and enhances dryness and drinkability. A very good DIPA that shades towards fruity and less bitter but still very dry and drinkable.

16oz can. Bottom stamp reads 'CANNED ON 07/26/24' (three months in the can before drinking).
Slightly cloudy, deep gold colored body. Two fingers of white head, and this reduces to a pillow top cap and high ring. Leaves behind partial horizontal lacing rings.
Aroma is faint, with notes of citrus fruit and a touch of pine.
Taste has a good balance between sweet and bitter, with flavors of orange and grapefruit, with a later emergence of pine. Citrus pith is a component of the aftertaste. Similar to marmalade but in liquid form.
Medium mouthfeel. Several sips lead to a general mouth numbing but not a palate wrecker. Very good carbonation.
Has a lingering resin level, and is good at hiding a higher ABV%. Good but not memorable.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Clear gold, big head.

Smell: Mild tropical fruits, low aroma.

Taste: Mild sweetness followed by moderate tropical fruit flavors. Kind of light body and flavor for a DIPA. A little more citrus comes out as it warms up.

Overall: Pizza Port has shown up in MN so I got some singles to try. I thought I already had Mongo, but Port Brewing also has a beer called that—I tried it but did not review since that one was old tasting. This is under a month from canning, tastes OK, but kind of low on flavor for your double IPA.

Crystal clear light amber color, nice fluffy white head and good retention and lacing
Aromas of citrus, pine, malt kind of floral
Taste is malty with a grapefruit orange citrus earthy taste
Mouthfeel is pretty sticky and resinous finished nice and with dry bitterness
Overall it’s a nice WC style IIPA the alcohol is well hidden and a nice drinking beer. Reminded me a little of a Daisy Cutter

Canned 11/16.
A clear light copper with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is old school IPA, resiny, candied grapefruit, moderately malty. The palate opens with a lot of pine, mild pinesol, grapefruit, candied orange. Despite having some malt sweetness, this is fairly light in body. Drying, fruity finish. Solid!
