Pours a clear yellow, with fine, whispy foam.

Smell is light with hints of apples, lime and a bit of yeast.

Taste is fruity and crisp, with hints of bready dough and apples. Very easy to drink with just a little bit of bitterness.

Mouthfeel is thin to medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a very drinkable blonde that would work well on the beach.

Can.

A clear golden yellow with a dense, white head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks great. The nose is bright and hoppy, dominated by the fruity, earthy and minty notes of the Hallertau Blanc hops, along with the soft, doughy pilsner malt notes. Firming and snappy, this smells great. The palate opens mildly bitter with a moderate hop flavor. Lemony, mildly minty, moderately fruity yeast and a doughy malt make for a remarkably easy going beer. A mild toast, a little earth and lingering lemon rind bitterness are present. Drying on the finish, this beer is light in body and crisply carbonated. Crushable.

Look: 3.5 - Golden and mostly clear. Maybe a touch on the cloudy side for me.
Smell: 4.5 - Mild hoppy smell. Pleasant on the nose. Definitely not overpowering
Taste: 3 - I appreciate that this is a golden style ale, but it seems to lake some body.
Feel: 4 - Not unpleasant going down and very light in the mouth. Makes up for the some of the losses above with a smoother drink.

Overall: A nice, lighter ale drink for a summer evening (especially during the hot days). Perhaps a little on the lighter side, hops wise, than I was looking for at the time, but definitely not an unpleasant drink. Just perhaps left wishing for a little more body for this type of brew.

Type: 16-oz. can

Had seen this before, but this made sense with me in a weight-loss bet, but still wanting to drink. Hit and miss for me with Pizza Port and not a huge American Blonde fan, but thought this was a good value at $9.99 for a 6-pack. Can read, “Grandview Golden is a tribute to a popular, yet secluded, sandy surf spot in Leucadia. Pilsner malt combined with Mt. Hood and Hallertau Blanc hops create a blonde, crisp, crushable beer. Keep Leucadia funky….Cheers!” Hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Poured a very light clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white fizzy head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass, looking like a snow globe. Bad watery lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 2.75)

Smelled cracker, white bread, grass, floral, honey, light Saaz and sugar cookie. Smells close to a pilsner. (Smell - 3.75)

Taste followed the nose for the most part. Got white bread, buttered white cracker, grass, hints of pepper spices, sugar cookie, floral and honey. Kind of like Pick Six Pilsner’s little brother. (Taste - 3.75)

Light body. Thin-to-oily texture. Lively carbonation. Spicy dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)

This was better than I thought it would be. Nowhere near as good and crushable as Pick Six Pilsner, but still good. (Overall - 3.75)

Crystal clear straw colored pour with a white head. Yeasty aroma. Taste is grainy with flavors of bread, cracker, noble hops and hint of lemon. Very light bodied, dry and refreshing.

A light gold color with decent head on pour. Smells of barely and yeast. Taste is fairly good. There's a wholesome grainy flavor with very mild bitterness. Not much complexity to the beer, but very drinkable and goes well with a meal.

The amount of good beer, across so many styles, being pumped out of the Pizza Port empire is staggering. From schwarzbier to coffee porter, red ale to (of course!) IPA, these guys just crush it. So, I suppose it should be no surprise that, when tasked with making something compelling of the oft overlooked golden ale, they succeed in spades. First off, this is all about ingredients, starting with delightful pilsner malt (has to be Weyermann, no? So characterful), followed up by a light touch of noble-ish hops (can says Mt. Hood and Hallertau Blanc). There's just enough ester, perhaps very faint citrus, to keep this out of pilsner territory, but it honestly brings that style to mind. Super bready, great body for a beer of its size, satisfying hop snap, what the hell isn't to love. Beers like this need to be celebrated, and celebrate I will!

Pours brilliantly clear straw with a huge foamy white head that laces well. I mean this is probably one of the lightest colored beers I have ever seen! Smells weedy, earthy, and spicy from what I assume is the use of noble hops. Taste has a very lightly toasted bread sweetness with the spicy and earthy hops bringing it perfectly into balance. Feel is so light and crisp, very refreshing and dry but not too dry. Overall, another winner from Pizza Port, and I think I've found my new summer beer thanks to it's new can format. Cheers!

On tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach. Grandview was one of my favorite surf spots growing up so I had to try this. Tulip.

A: Gold in color with a finger of white froth.

S: Cracker, biscuit, and doughy malt. There's a whisper of sulfur and a touch of mineral. Just a little fruit and a restrained spicy floral note.

T: Lightly bitter with lots of biscuity malt. There's a little toasted character and some lemongrass. A little sulfur. Finish is crisp, dry, and clean.

M: Light body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: A pretty good beer. Not overly complex but refreshing and easy to drink with pleasant malt flavors.
