February release at Solana Beach. Coconut version available, as well. Classic American oatmeal stout with all the roasted malt, baking chocolate, and dark coffee that you expect. Smooth body and feel and finish from the oats. Tasty stuff.

On-tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach, an oatmeal stout. On to the beer:

Beer is blacker than ink and topped with a low head which doesn't give a lot of lace or retain much of itself. But with the taste, aroma, and feel of Oats, who cares if it rates average with appearance? The aroma is smoky and roasty with some coffee beans, and the flavor is slightly sweet and smoky. Smoked chocolate comes to mind. Roasty, cappuccino, just a little sweet. Thick bodied and very smooth in the mouth, almost like a meal in a glass. Needless to say, this is a very good oatmeal stout.

Consumed July 28th, 2012 at the brewery. Reviewed from notes.

Very close to black with mahogany highlights. Virtually no head.

Aroma is very subtle: oatmeal and cream.

Flavor is very smooth; sweet, malted milk balls, some oats and, when the beer is down your throat, surprise! A welcome and modest bitterness appears. Nicely played.

Mouthfeel is slightly thick and creamy.

As oatmeal stouts go, this is a good one. From my notes: "I could drink this all afternoon!"
