February 7th, 2016 - Naming a beer the same as hair product probably doesn't do much for my implicit psychological biases to a beer before I even have it poured for me, but all of those shiny hair preconceptions are bowled over when I get to smell the taster for the first time. The roasted flavor is absolutely lovely, like top shelf roasted coffee (Bird Rock), with some soy sauce umami intensity and a slight funk, like a well aged steak. It is a delicious aroma, and worth the price of admission alone. The beer tastes smooth more than any one flavor, but the mid and aftertaste swoop in to rescue the overly gentle introduction. Dark chocolate and ribbons of caramel, crushed pecan and toffee appear in the mid-taste, with a shadow of roasted coffee blanketing the medley. While I still think it starts a little too quiet, the succeeding flavors make this one of the best Pizza Port beers I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy.
